BRUTALITY WILL PREVAIL ¨C ROOT OF ALL EVIL Posted on August 28, 2010 by lityerses| Leave a comment If the title of this record, it¡¯s apocalyptic artwork and skin crawling promo video don¡¯t give you a clue as to what is to come, then listening to the first minute and a half of the melancholic and doom filled ¡°Trapped Doors Moving Walls¡± should clear up once and for all that on this, their first full length release for Holy Roar Records, Brutality Will Prevail are the closest incarnation of what pure evil might actually sound like.
The South Wales five piece have been through several line up changes, a complete aural overhaul and a pretty dynamic change in lyrical content and aesthetic to reach the ¡°root of all evil¡±, but it¡¯s a wait that has well and truly paid off. Their first offerings of simple two step beat downs were widely imitated and fun to start with, but it is the progression of the band which in a lot of ways makes this often uncomfortable listen all the more thrilling. 2009¡äs ¡°Forgotten Soul¡± demonstrated the promise that this band potentially had, and a split with Hang The Bastard (featuring now reworked album track Life) further impressed me, but on this, their first release on Holy Roar, BWP have really found their sound. Tracks such as ¡°Lost and Alone¡±, first online upload ¡°Early Grave¡± and ¡°Reprisal¡± demonstrate everything that is most impressive about this band in terms of pure unadulterated agression, and make it incredibly difficult to pick out a stand out moment. The haunting end guitar line of ¡°Illusions¡± feels like it should soundtrack a descent into hell itself, and the gang vocals of ¡°Secrets Of The T¡± sound like the Cro Mags on a Sleep inspired acid trip.
The more you listen to this record, the harder it becomes to pinpoint a genre for this band (which personally I find quite an exciting prospect), although obviously they implement some elements of hardcore, but down tune and twist these parts so far that they are barely recognisable. The press release suggests that this record is what a hardcore band would sound like if Crowbar and Tom Waits got together, and I find it hard to disagree ¨C particularly when you listen back to the haunting verses and melodies of acoustic led (yes, you read that right) penultimate track ¡°Rot Away¡±, and the previously mentioned intro to album opener ¡°Trapped Doors¡±. However fans of Forgotten Soul will of course not be disappointed, as the band have far from left behind the huge doom laden riffs and breaks of their most recent work. In a lot of ways, I would say that this album even features some strangely catchy parts ¨C as much as a drop G riff and fierce vocal can be catchy. All of these elements come together in perfect unison in an album that is equal parts post rock melody, brooding country horror and sludge doom to create an exploration of the nature of evil that is hard to forget. All in all these eight tracks are a highly impressive demonstration of what modern hardcore should be ¨C forward thinking, powerful and terrifying in it¡¯s ambition. UK hardcore has a new contender for record of the year.

Copypasta
Firstly - thanks for ordering this incredible release. It is now here on cd and vinyl and looks and sounds amazing. We hope you like it as much as us. Shipping on cd/vinyl and tote bag orders will begin tomorrow/wednesday, with t-shirt orders and t-shirt bundles beginning friday/saturday. Please stay patient with us during this time - we are shipping as fast as we possibly can......remember this label is me and a couple of part-time helpers!
Unfortunately there is one tiny part of bad news....the 'pizza/bronze' mix has not been manufactured due to an error at the pressing plant. This means there pressing of this record is now 400 units - 100 on bronze vinyl, 300 on pizza vinyl.
The first 100 orders we received will receive bronze vinyl now, regardless of whether you ordered bronze or 'bronze/pizza mix'.
Anyone who ordered all 3 colourways of the vinyl as a package will now received just bronze and pizza vinyls. 2 vinyls rather than 3. You will be refunded £8. Please bear with us on these refunds as we have alot of orders to get through.
We are sorry about this, and appreciate your understanding and patience at this time! Oh and obviously if you just ordered a tote, a shirt or a cd etc - then the majority of this does not apply to you!
Any questions, please don't hesitate in emailing us

This record really is the root of all evil. Can't believe some clown has already put it up for download. Clearly doesn't understand how independent music works.
