Rock'n'roll infused power violence with hints of Kodan Armada and Neil Perry on their more expansive moments. Features Jack of Dorian Gay/WWHRD? 'fame' as well as Alex Batten (ex-Maths). Recorded by Alfie of Maths.

I'm Jack, i sing in Jackals. I'm not gonna get into a habit of defending my band against people who don't like us on the internet because it's hard to come off well when doing that, and it just looks like you can't handle the fact that someone doesn't like you.
I will just respond to a couple of things though.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'ego problem'. I'm assuming you don't know us personally, in which case i'd guess it'd be pretty hard to judge, and i think in this case pretty ill-founded. But if you wanna point out what made you think that we have an ego problem, i'd be pleased to put you right, because it's really not the case.
I don't think anyone has referred to us as an 'ex-Maths project' and it's certainly not something that the band have said. We've actually not really made other things we are involved with in a direct part of the band- but at the same time we won't pretend that we aren't/weren't involved in other things. It makes sense that Alex might mention that fact, given that he wants people to check us out as he is involved in releasing our 7" and Maths are a band he is involved with, and one that people like.
That said, as it's been brought up, Alex who plays guitar in Jackals, did play bass in Maths for a while. I'm not really too sure on much more than that as i didn't know him at the time, so anything more that you have heard hasn't come out of my mouth. We are friends with Maths, to the extent that Alfie recently filled in on drums for us, and we recorded our EP at their house, with members of Maths involved in that.
Whilst we are completely seperate from Maths in all senses of the band, and are in no way a 'Maths project', a couple of links that have been made with the band, as i pointed out above, is justified.
I realise this might be read as me being a bit lame, and to be honest i should have probably just left it because it's cooler to be an arrogant arsehole, but oh well.
To everyone who has ordered the EP, whether it is through Holy Roar or us personally or any of the other places involved, we should have them in our hands one day this week, they'll then be packaged with the artwork and inlays which are all ready and will be sent out asap. Sorry for the delay but as most people who have tried to release something by a band will know, it doesn't always run smoothly, and this is the first time we've personally been involved in releasing a record.

Hey Alex, I know it's not a lie completely. Alex B did play bass yeah, but he didn't record on any releases as far as I know. Or write any music at all. BUT that's not my reasoning really. I think it's sillier because I can't imagine there being much fan crossover. So you have to record on something to be an 'ex' member of a band? Didn't know there was a rule book! haha Also i really do think these bands could share fans! Im a fan of both and there are vague elements of screamo in both. I see no problems and i see no egos.

You're right, I don't know any of you personally, it was a throwaway comment. I can PM you why I think that way - when it comes down to it Jackals was just the unlucky target for an opinion that I hold for plenty of other bands too. Sophie I don't think anyone ever claimed that Alex was responsible for anything other than playing in Maths for a while. And like i said, we are friends with the guys in Maths, and it's no different from most bands who acknowledge friends etc. I think its perhaps a bit presumptuous of you to judge how much of a crossover there will be, because plenty of people who like the type of music Maths make will listen to other things, and as i said, we consider them to be friends of ours who are signed to a label which are helping us release our 7". But again, the whole argument is a little pointless given that we have never gone out of our way to make the link between the bands, and perhaps less so than links with some other bands our members are/have been involved in. I'm not mad and i don't want to argue, but i just felt in this case that the criticisms or comments you made of us aren't well founded so i thought i should probably point that out. Feel free to tell me where you think we are giving off the impression of having 'ego problems' but i can't promise that we'll do anything about it.

This thread confuses me.
Honestly, Maths would rather be linked to nothing and no-one, ever, and if Jackals were being touted as a "New ex-Maths project" we would probably have an issue with it as it would be our name being used to promote something that wasn't our creation. Luckily that doesn't seem to be the case, and it has only been briefly mentioned that Jackals features one ex-member of Maths.
I hope the Jackals 7" does well, I think Matt did a really great job at mixing it.
