I went record shopping at lunch and just wondered where most people buy music (assuming that you do)? Ie: - Online (where?) - Chain shops (like HMV etc) - Independent shops - Direct from label - other?!
Purely for my own interest, and also to see if there are any outlets we should start stocking in.
I work 5 mins from Berwick St so get a lot from Sister Ray, but online I quite like Norman Records (they sent me a Maoam with my last order!) Occasionally Amazon if it isn't available anywhere else, and very rarely HMV etc.

I don't actually remember the last time I bought music from a proper bricks n mortar shop.
Mostly order online from Norman Records (I'm all about the free Maoam) or direct from labels/at shows.
Also special mention to the guy from Edgeworld Records in Brighton who treks up to Canterbury every month to sell records in the back of a pub.

Mostly I buy direct from the label/band/distro There's a independent store called Avalanche in Edinburgh, and in Glasgow which is great as well managed to get a few rolo/dananana stuff from them, and its really friendly (definitely worth seeing about) I've heard Monorails good too froma few friends I met at a Rolo gig but I've never gone to it yet. HMV/Fopp occasionally, though the price is usually bumped up that bit more, though online they have some decent offers, and sell a lot of Hassles stuff for a reasonable price 7digital/Ebay/Amazon are great for online buying too, and a lot of places set up online stores with them which is rather good.
Then sites like Last.fm and you have programs like Spotify (which you already use) and even mFlow which is meant to be quite good too.

I'm going to check out a couple of those distros I haven't heard of! I used to get really good records second hand in charity shops/car boot sales etc but haven't for ages, where has all the good second hand vinyl gone? Got a Karp CD in my local charity shop a couple of years ago, I was v happy.
Mflow - anyone actually use this? You think it's worth us setting up a Holy Roar account?

I got an invite to it ages ago and i have it downloaded it on my mac, I haven't actually used it yet, nor do I use spotify despite owning it, since I have all the songs I want on my iTunes
But I think mFlows worth checking out, its all about recommending music and advertising what you listen too to other people, so its great for getting people to show others the bands, Zane Low has a thing on it, that's about all I know, I would say contact them and try and find out more, and see what the usage figures etc are (:

I buy music from just about everywhere possible. Local shops in Norwich will sometimes have some incredible releases. HMV online gets me "pure" points which I can use to get free stuff. eBay I use a lot for rarities. People on forums sell me stuff in job lots. Distros and online merch stores are probably where I buy most of my music from now. I only ever pay for downloads when there is an "exclusive" track but this is very rare for me.
Does Holy Roar have an amazon account/store yet? That's something worth looking in to!

I usually buy direct from the bands or if that isn't available direct from the label. If there is one thing i've learnt from being in a band it's that buying from amazon/hmv/play etc etc don't really help the bands at all, at least not bands on Maths level.

I buy a lot of my vinyl second hand from people on forums like this actually. Mostly though it comes straight from the band or label. Never really buy anything from big outlets.
It would be awesome to see a really big distro in the UK, there are some really good ones in Europe as mentioned but you still end up with the postage fees you want to avoid. The worst thing in the world is seeing a 7" in US costing $5 only to be knocked up by 3 times in price to ship here!

Mostly direct from labels or at shows these days, but 'cause I'm in Brighton I have Punker Bunker, Rounder and Resident all just a short walk away, which is cool!
Norman Records seem cool, I've been on their mailing list for about a year but still haven't actually bought anything from them.

I made a mental note to go to the punker bunker last time I was in brighton, shut for some reason but I guess my timing was wrong! I forgot all ages, always something worth picking up in there, conveniently placed more or less behind the underworld aswell
