Kayo Dot powerfully integrates elements of modern classical composition with the layers of guitars and vocals more common to rock and metal. With a compositional map that is strict in form yet malleable in execution, Kayo Dot uses a vast array of instrumentation to create an exciting convergence of violence and serenity.

Kayo Dot is probably one of the most genre-bending bands I have had the honor of listening to, and probably one of my favorite bands. Toby Driver is a genius when it comes to composing such great music. Kayo Dot is a progression from an earlier band called maudlin of the Well. motW if you have not had a chance to listen to them were a metal band that contained horns, heavy riffs, and a knack for bringing something new to the genre as a whole. motW released 3 full length albums on the Dark Symphonies label. Their first being: My fruit psychobells...a seed combustible, and two companion full lengths titled Bath & Leaving your body map. After disbanding motW, Toby Driver formed Kayo Dot with the first release "Choirs of the Eye" coming out on Tzadik Records, (John Zorn's Label) "Choirs of the Eye" was a continuation of where motW was going, including a few motW members, but mostly a new ensemble cast. "Dowsing Anemone with a Copper tongue" was the groups 2nd release on Robotic Empire, and is another amazing piece of work. Again, with a different lineup of musicians than from previous releases. Kayo Dot was then signed to HydraHead Records, and have since released "Blue Lambency Downward" & "Coyote", and in November of 2010 will be releasing "Stained Glass EP".
For Those who haven't had a chance to check them out, please do so. Starting with "Choirs of the Eye" and progressing forward. I also want to add that Maudlin of the Well is a must listen!!! You can find all 3 albums on eBay, along with the 3 re-issues that were remastered, and contains unreleased tracks from the originals. I promise it is like nothing you have ever heard before.
Cheers!!!

another thing i would like to add is that everything is executed flawlessly. it may sound like they throw a lot of improvisation into the songs, but it is not...everything is note for note, the way it was written...which by me, makes it that much more amazing!
