The Old Blue Last New Years Eve House Party
Once again we invite you to The Old Blue Last New Years Eve House Party. After the technicolour chaos that was last years sold out 18 hour marathon, we've decided to do it all again, inviting back some of our favourite promoters from the last 12 months and 2 special guests who we think have made a serious impact this year.
Downstairs will be hosted by the promoters that have given us some of our years most interesting and intense line-ups, from right across the spectrum. Expect a broad selection of beats from achingly cool blog turned label No Pain In Pop, long-standing OBL purveyors of true metal Skill Wizard, our monthly Tuesday night indie taste-maker Cool For Cats, Shoreditch's finest fashionable gathering A Rebours and our very own home of heaviosity Friends of Ahab throughout the night.
Upstairs things take an electronic focus, with future-bass crusaders Streets of Beige and East London's most essential new-music club night Fuck The White Board providing special guest line-ups to book-end our two very special guests -
GIRL UNIT has had an excellent year, first releasing single I.R.L and most recently break-through track 'Wut', both on the awesome Night Slugs label. His dark-R&B, bass heavy sound sums up the progression of London's underground dance music in 2010. Tipped by the likes of the Guardian to appear in many of 2011's ones-to-watch polls, we're extremely happy to have snapped him up for our annual NYE chaos.
"A post-dubstep mishmash of twitchy R&B, house propulsion, and knocking bass, "Wut"
just jumps out of speakers and announces itself a hit" Pitchfork
"A mixture of mutant club music, hip-hop and R’n’B in a way that’s gripping and completely on point" FACT
But seeing us through midnight will be PARIAH, easily one of our favorite artists of the last 12 months, his epic EP 'Safehouses' on R+S has been on constant rotation in our office since its release late summer. Like label mate James Blake, Pariah works in a realm of post-dubstep chopped-vocals and off-kilter beats, constantly exploring new sub-genres of bass-lead dance music. After an incredible set at the Vice Issue Launch in September, we had to invite him back for our New Years Eve celebrations.
"It's impossible not to get pulled into his enveloping and immersive soundscapes" Resident Advisor
"Diced vocals, stuttering two-step beats and colossal breakdowns" BBC Music
